An artistic youth vision of living in harmony with nature, welcomed by the Mexican delegation to the CBD
Through culture and art, young people showcase the youth priorities.
The Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN) revealed a mural work of art in the Geneva CBD negotiations. Andrea Morales from the GYBN explained the rationale. “Art is a medium that captures thoughts, feelings, or moments and appeals to our emotions. Young people have very many emotions about this environmental crisis and through our network, we have worked to help them express these emotions into youth priorities that can be integrated into the technical language of the CBD.”
This mural, according to Morales, completes the circle of bringing the youth priorities back to the emotional level and helping delegates connect to the youth vision through art. The work was spearheaded by artist Mirna Fernández and created by the team of young people who are here in Geneva, representing the global youth, and helping this community build a just and equitable but also participatory and inclusive Global Biodiversity Framework.
During the event, many members of the GYBN community that are present in the CBD negotiations in Geneva shared their thoughts and feelings towards the mural. As part of the speakers, Frida Díaz from the Mexican Delegation congratulated the work that youth has been doing to collect the opinion of young people around the globe through the consultations, including those that took place in Mexico. “We strongly support transformative education and youth participation along the Global Biodiversity Framework so thank you so much and we are very happy to see a huge youth delegation here”.
Pierre Du Plessis, Namibia, encouraged young people to not give up and keep pushing for the holistic approaches and values that will allow us to live in harmony with nature.
